About Martialis
Martialis is an interactive index of martial-arts lineages and styles, tracing how knowledge and tradition passed from teacher to student across centuries and continents.
What it does
The graph at the heart of Martialis lets you explore lineage connections visually. Click any person to see their biography, teachers, students, and the styles they practised or founded. Double-click to re-centre the graph on that person's immediate family tree.
The data
The database is drawn from martialis-db, an open, community-maintained YAML corpus. Every claim carries a source reference; confidence levels signal how well-attested each connection is.
Contributing
Corrections, additions, and new lineage data are welcome. The easiest route is a pull request to martialis-db. For discussion, open an issue there.
Technical notes
Martialis is built in Common Lisp using Hunchentoot, Snooze, Spinneret, Datastar, Cytoscape.js, and Beer CSS.
