Ueda Heitaro · Lineage tree

Description

Ueda Heitaro (1877-1949) was a Japanese kendo master, three-time participant in the Tenran shiai (imperial martial arts tournaments), and the only kenshi to be deified as a Shinto kami. He served as head instructor for the Dai Nippon Butoku Kai Kagawa branch, Kagawa police, Takamatsu prison, and several schools. He was a student of Naito Takaharu in kendo, and from 1919 studied Tosa Eishin-ryu iaijutsu under Hosokawa Yoshimasa, receiving menkyo kaiden in Muso Shinden Eishin-ryu in 1923.

“At the Yoseijo he was there as a "koshusei" or a "part-time" student there to learn kendo only (full time students also did academic study). There he studied directly under Naito Takaharu and crossed shinai with the likes of Saimura, Nakano, Oshima, and Shimatani (this was slightly before Mochida, Ogawa, Miyazaki, and Oasa, etc arrived). ”

  Confirmed

JA wiki (Ueda Heitaro): entered Hosokawa Yoshimasa in Kochi in 1919 and received the Muso Shinden Eishin-ryu menkyo kaiden from him in 1923. The kenshi247 chronology, which is not a Wikipedia derivative, gives the same 1919-1923 period and the same teacher, so the claim is not Wikipedia-only.

The evidence establishes the claim: it is sufficient and consistent, and any conflicting evidence is resolved.
