Also known as
Hans Dalhover · Hans Talhofer
Description
Fifteenth-century German fencing master of unknown lineage, connected to the
Liechtenauer tradition, an itinerant master-at-arms who trained men for judicial
duels and wrote at least five fencing manuals (1440s–1467), with sections on
astrology and numerology. He may have been an early member of the Marxbrüder.
Sources
“His martial lineage is unknown, but his writings make it clear that he had some
connection to the tradition of Johannes Liechtenauer, the grand master of the
German school of fencing.”
“Astrology was particularly important to Hans Talhoffer (ca.1420–ca. 1470s).
Talhoffer was an itinerant master-at-arms and prolific author of fencing books.”
