Description
Portuguese aikido association founded in 1989 by Tristão da Cunha to develop
Iwama Shin-Shin Aikishurenkai (Iwama Ryu) aikido in Portugal. The name
Aiki-Shuren Dojo was given by Morihiro Saito for the dojo in Portugal. Its
Technical Director was Tristão da Cunha, 7th dan Iwama Shin Shin Aikido, later
8th dan.

APASD operated within the Aikikai system from its founding in 1989 until
Hitohiro Saito's separation from the Aikikai in 2003; the CAO interview and
the English interview describe Iwama and Aikikai as being the same system during
that period, with ranks issued through the Aikikai

After Hitohiro Saito founded Iwama Shin-Shin Aiki Shuren-kai (ISSASK) in
February 2004, APASD became recognised by ISSASK, whose head confers the dan
grades on APASD's technical director; the enriconeami article records the
VIII dan Dentō Iwama Ryu conferred by Saito Hitohira Jukucho
