    Description

The Budo Club du Maroc was the dojo founded by Georges Stobbaerts in Casablanca in 1962, the first aikido and kendo dojo in Africa. He taught martial arts and yoga there for about a decade, forming numerous students who themselves became teachers, including Daniel Laurent and M'Barek Alaoui. It was the venue of early seminars with visiting Japanese masters such as Nobuyoshi Tamura and Julien Naessens.

Alaoui states in his 2011 Aikido Journal interview that he began aikido in 1957 with European teachers including Georges Stobbaerts in Morocco; Stobbaerts likewise called him one of his students in his 2001 interview. The student-teacher relationship is confirmed from both sides, though the split of 1970 moved Alaoui's teaching allegiance to the Tamura line.
