    Description

Second son of Chiba Shusaku; succeeded his father at the Genbukan dojo in Edo (Bennett). After his death in 1862 the dojo passed to his younger brother Michisaburō. His student Shimoe Hidetaro (from 1858) carried the Genbukan line into the Meiji era (JA wiki, Chiba Shusaku; Shimoe Hidetaro).

JA wiki (Shimoe Hidetaro) records his 1858 entry to the Genbukan under Chiba Eijirō, whose death in 1862 ends the period; single source, but specific.
The evidence favours the claim and nothing credible contradicts it, but it falls short of establishing it.

“Chiba Shūsaku's Genbukan was an anticlimax. Repeated requests made to Shūsaku's son Eijirō (1833-62) were turned down with all manner of "excuses."”
