    Description

Fifteenth-century fencing master from Pisa, perhaps the Philippo Vadi who served the d'Este of Ferrara. His De Arte Gladiatoria Dimicandi, given to Guidobaldo da Montefeltro, Duke of Urbino, in 1482–1487, closely follows Fiore dei Liberi's work, with departures in names and method; it links Fiore and the Bolognese school.

Independent sources state the influence; the means is inferred.
The evidence favours the claim and nothing credible contradicts it, but it falls short of establishing it.

“Vadi was a disciple of the dei Liberi “school,” but his work has departures in nomenclature and methodology, and may either represent a subtradition of the dei Liberi heritage or be evidence of the school’s evolution during the fifteenth century.”
