Description

Kindle biography of Edith Garrud (1872-1971), the first British female jujutsu teacher and trainer of the WSPU Bodyguard, by Tony and Karen Wolf. Widely cited in the later academic literature: Brough (2020) draws on it for the Garruds' training at the Bartitsu club and Golden Square Dojo, Edith's teaching of women's and children's classes, her dojo at 9 Argyll Place, the red jacket she wore to stand out on stage, her sheltering of wanted WSPU members (1911-13), and the Garruds' retirement from teaching around 1925.
